Black History Month: During the month of February, Mansfield ISD joins the nation in remembering and celebrating the contributions of African-Americans in U.S. history. The concept of annually celebrating Black achievements started in 1926 as Negro History Week. The dates encompassed the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The celebration was expanded to a month in 1976, the nation’s bicentennial.
During the month of February, campus administrators at the Jandrucko Academy will visit pods to read aloud their favorite children’s books about inspirational African-Americans.
